Red Dot vice president Gary Hansen was in Phoenix last month at the 2011 SAE Alternate Refrigerant and System Efficiency Symposium. His report?

“Low GWP-refrigerant supply and pricing are top-of-mind for engineers and suppliers working on 2013-model-year vehicles, but those issues will get worked out,” Hansen says. ”Shops and A/C technicians should be getting ready now in order to prevent the same types of contamination issues the industry experienced during the transition from R-12 to R-134a.”

Reduce the risk. Ask your Red Dot distributor about Yellow Jacket refrigerant identifiers and service tools.

“The low-GWP requirements involve cars and light trucks only,” says Gary. “If you work on both light and heavy-duty systems, plan now to protect your equipment and your customers’ A/C systems.”
